PowerMarket, a community solar market leader, and Hartz Mountain Industries, Inc., a commercial real estate enterprise, have partnered to bring some of the first community solar projects online right here in Northern New Jersey – four projects altogether, three in Hudson county and one in Essex county.
Enjoy guaranteed monthly savings of at least 22% on your PSE&G bills.
Northern New Jersey residents within the PSE&G service area can participate and lower their monthly energy bills with clean, local energy!
PowerMarket is dedicated to fighting climate change, promoting sustainable development, and advancing social justice through the connection of clean, local energy projects to underserved communities.
Local renewable energy projects such as community solar can help provide cleaner air, greater energy resiliency, grow the local economy, and so much more.
Community solar provides you with the benefits of clean energy without the hassle of a traditional solar panel installation. Through PowerMarket and Hartz Mountain Industries, you can receive a portion of the solar energy produced as a credit on your bill.
Select your municipality from the dropdown to see which project(s) you quality for.
When you sign up for our community solar program, you will receive credits each month on your PSE&G bill. These credits will go toward offsetting the cost of your bill, allowing you to save money and contribute to a more sustainable future. It's that simple. Here are the three easy steps to make it happen.
Fill out a subscription form with basic details (name, email, etc.) and have a recent electric bill handy. As you continue your registration, you’ll have to enter your PSE&G account number (where to find it ) and energy usage information so we can determine the right amount of the solar project to allocate to your bill.
Once you’ve subscribed, you will be given access to a personal dashboard where you can see the project's solar energy production, your document library (contract, bills, etc.) and your monthly savings.
You will start seeing savings on your electric bill a month or two after you subscribe to the community solar program.
When you sign up to the community solar project, we assign you a portion of the project based on your historic energy usage. Then each month you will receive bill credits from your utility representing the amount of solar energy produced from the size of your portion of the solar project. These bill credits will offset your electric supply charges, delivery charges, and taxes on your utility bill. We will then charge you for the bill credits you received, but at a discount.
As an example, let’s say Sarah's monthly utility bills are $70/month. Sarah signed up for community solar and is excited to start saving. The solar project started generating energy on October 1, and on Sarah's November utility bill, she saw a bill credit of $50, with a balance due of $20 ($60 - $50 = $10). Sarah paid the $10 to her utility at the end of November, and then paid PowerMarket $40 for the value of her $50 credit, saving 22%!
It costs nothing to join a community solar project, and there are no membership fees or penalties. Members only ever pay for the solar bill credits they receive, but always at a discounted rate.
While there is no cost to sign up, you will still pay for the bill credits you receive each month, but at a discount compared to what you would’ve paid your utility for that same portion of energy. Before we process any payment, you will have already received the credits on your utility bill.
Yes! In May 2018, Governor Murphy signed A3723/S2314, which mandated the creation of the Community Solar Energy Pilot Program. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities adopted rules establishing the community solar program in early 2019, and through a rigorous application process, Hartz solar projects were among few selected to be constructed in the State of New Jersey.
Unfortunately no. Public service regulations don't allow customers who have on-site solar to enroll on a community solar project.
Yes! As long as you pay for your ESCO supply through your utility bill, you can maintain your ESCO contract and still join a community solar project. Joining a community solar project will allow you to continue supporting existing renewable energy projects, while also saving some money and having a tangible connection to a new local project.
No. Community solar is known to actually increase the reliability of our electric grid by providing generation closer to where it’s used. The only change you’ll see on your utility bill is a new line dedicated to your solar bill credit, reducing your monthly energy costs. Your utility company still maintains the physical grid and delivers electricity through its wires to everyone.
You should start seeing credits on your utility bill two months after you subscribe to a community solar project.
If you need to leave, there are no fees. We simply request 60 days' notice.
